Welcome to Rockaway Meadow Elementary SCHOOL

Rockaway Meadow School is strongly committed to the goals of academic excellence, positive social interactions, and responsible behavior. We foster a caring atmosphere where staff, students, parents, and the community work in together to create an enriching educational program. We stress the importance of mutual respect, acceptance, and appreciation of all our differences and similarities.

Teachers use a wide range of well-chosen effective strategies, questions, materials, technology, and groupings to accelerate student learning. Our staff members are active learners as they are constantly seeking out ways to grow and learn more about the science and art of teaching. They participate in a variety of school-based and district-wide committees and engage in an extensive array of professional development opportunities to refine and enhance their teaching skills.

Preparing students to be productive citizens is a priority at Rockaway Meadow. Our students have the opportunity to participate in numerous activities that enhance the curriculum and foster the development of social/emotional growth. Over the years we have found ways to extend the learning beyond the four walls of our classrooms. Rockaway Meadow School has partnered up with local community agencies to provide a more authentic and enriching learning experience for our students. In addition, our students have found ways to "give back" to the community. It is a mutually beneficial relationship that continues to grow stronger.

Parental involvement is a vital component of Rockaway Meadow's educational program. It is the expectation that all parents become actively involved in all aspects of their child's education. Parents are regularly updated on their child's progress and provided with an array of tools and strategies to provide support at home. In addition, they generously offer their time and energy to serve as school volunteers. Our active PTA provides funds for enriching cultural arts programs, class trips, and other activities, that enhance our instructional program.

Schools are places that help students make sense of the world around them. Talking to students about issues like racism and protest can be difficult even in the best of times when we are actually with our students and not just looking at them through screens. Nonetheless, these are important conversations and important times. Should you wish, here are a few resources to assist in speaking with your children about these issues.
